Birth story: Elsie.

I've been wanting to share this birth story for over a year. I hope you'll agree it was worth the wait! Elsie was born last April, hours after the terrorist bombing at the Boston marathon. I found that the juxtaposition of something so horrific happening side by side with the beautiful work of birthing a baby was keenly poignant and I wanted to remember it. There is still good in the world. :) And because my own baby was born just this April, I've been acutely moved by these photos! Liz labored for over 15 hours without any progress from Oxytocin before it was decided by everyone that a C-Section was the right choice. I just can't believe how great it is to watch a birth. Not only is it glorious to see the birth of a baby, but to see the birth of a mother.
It's extraordinary.
Be warned: there are a few pictures in this series that show the baby being born via C-Section, so if you get queasy at the sight of blood or surgery, scroll responsibly. ;)
